Garment units to be set up in five places - Belgaum gets one

Minister for Textiles Goolihatti Shekhar on Tuesday said Texport, a Bangalore-based garment producer would set up its units in five locations outside Bangalore, providing employment to 10,000 people.

The units would be set up in Belgaum, Bidar, Hosadurga, KGF and Harapanahalli, the minister said. The department would encourage other firms that are willing to set up units outside Bangalore. Garment industries provide employment to nearly 5 lakh people in Bangalore alone. With the establishment of units outside Bangalore employment will be generated in the rural areas, the minister said.

The State government has allocated Rs 112 crore in its budget for the year 2009-10 for textiles. Of that nearly Rs 43 crore had been released and Rs 21 crore has already been spent, he added.
