Belgaum job fair may fill 10K vacancies

BELGAUM: Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation will conduct a two-day skill and job fair here from June 6 at Dharmanath Bhavan here.

The fair will be held under the aegis of employment and training departments and skill commission. Briefing reporters on the fair, Ramesh Jalaki, commissioner (employment and training department), said that around 10,000 persons will be recruited during the fair. It will provide a platform for job providers and job seekers, he added. According to a survey conducted by the department, the district has around 5,000 vacancies in different companies. "But there is a dearth of skilled man power. The job fair will help assess candidates' skill," he said.

Arvind Exports, NIIT, Gokak Textiles, Airtel, Tata Marcopolo Motors, Manikbag Automobiles, Raxa Securities, and Apparel are among the 30 companies that have confirmed their participation in the fair, he said. The deserving ones will get jobs on the spot, Jalaki said. Similar fairs have been organized in Bangalore, Hubli, Mysore, Gulbarga and Mangalore, attracting 78,014 job seekers. As many as 21,186 candidates have been given offer letters while nearly 32,000 candidates have been identified for training.
