A prepaid autorickshaw counter was inaugurated at the railway station hereby Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner K. Ramachandra Rao on Friday.
He said the prepaid counter was a long-pending demand of the public. Such counters would be set up at the new bus-stand, Hubli railway station, and Hubli old bus-stand, he added.
The notification issued by the Government on fares to be charged by prepaid autorickshaw drivers had been displayed at the counter. Policemen would be deployed to monitor its functioning, he said.
Notification
As per the notification, the minimum fare is Rs. 15 for the first 1.6 km and after that Rs. 10 for every km. Presiding over the programme, Deputy Commissioner Darpan Jain said auto service should improve along with public transport.
Service tax
A service tax of Re. 1 would be charged towards the maintenance of the counter and salary of the operator manning the counter, he said.
Regional Transport Officer J. Purshottam, Deputy Commissioner of Police P.R. Bhatkurki and Assistant Commissioners of Police Sanjiv Patil and N.S. Patil spoke.
