HUBLI: The Karnataka government proposed to develop 'Nripatunga' hillock as a tourist centre in the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad at a cost of Rs one crore, according to state Kannada culture and Tourism secretary I M Vittal Murthy.
After inspecting the hillock along with senior officials of Dharwad district last evening, Mr Murthy said the tourism department had decided to develop the hillock into a picnic spot. The department would sanction Rs 50 Lakh for the purpose.
The rest of the amount had to be borne by Hubli-Dharwad city Municipal Corporation.
A memorandum of understanding would be signed soon for the project, he said and added it was also proposed to provide a separate area for the benefit of morning and evening walkers. It would also have a children's park.
