Rs. 4-crore profit for NWKRTC

Sirsi: NWKRTC (North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation) has earned a profit of Rs. 4 crore in the last four months coming out from loss, said Mallikarjun Savukar, Chairman of NWKRTC.

He told presspersons here on Saturday that in four months [from April 2008 to July 2008], the corporation suffered loss and in the same period this year, it had earned a profit.

He said that it was possible due to running of buses in time and the formation of and the change in inspection squads.

He said that the State Government would give Rs. 50 crore and the NWKRTC would purchase 600 buses soon.

Tax exemption

The NWKRTC has asked for tax exemption on par with North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC).

He also said that Rs. 8 crore had been received out of the Rs. 25 crore sanctioned as per the Nanjundappa commission report, and a new bus stand and drinking water facility would be provided with this fund.

To overcome the flaws in the NWKRTC, senior officials have been asked to visit depots for inspection every week, Mr. Savukar said.

NWKRTC managing director A.N. Patil, manager Baburao and Sirsi divisional controller M.N. Venkatesh were present.
